Communicating with Students

So you have decided that you want to write for teenagers. But the question is how can you interact with the teenager when you’re not when? Sure you think that hey I’ve been a teenager once myself, but it’s really not that easy. While we have all gone through the teen years communicating with the teens of today as well as remembering what it felt like as a teenager, can actually work against you. What you’re missing is that once you get beyond that hormone fueled stage of your life, you’ve learned from your mistakes and can look back and see the error of your ways as a teenager. The teenagers are in the throes of it and they don’t understand how they will come out the other side. The first thing that you need to do when you’re going to dress teenagers, is understand that the stereotypes that you have heard, while you might feel are accurate, are not how they feel about themselves. There is some kind of assumption that is been going around for years probably deck it’s really the teenagers are lazy they don’t work as hard as the people that came before them and they have no idea what real hard work is. People seem to view teenagers as playing video games all day hanging out with friends and absent from what the idea is to work hard. But you have to understand that teenagers do you like to work heard they just need to be motivated to do it. And the motivation to do it is often misunderstood by adults. Kids need more incentive than just a little bit of cash or some kind of video games or some price if they win for being good, that’s just really not how works. You have to inspire them to look further then their monetary things. Look toward the future, look toward helping people and becoming successful adults. Teenagers want to feel significant and they want you to show that you care about them and how they feel. A lot of the problems that they suffer from today is because their emotions and needs are not being addressed as a priority.

Step Two

When you’re writing for teenagers you have to understand that they want to have their say and be able to make decisions in their own lives. They do not like to be told what to do they like to be given the option to make the responsible choice. In writing this means that if you’re addressing the teenagers you’re not just using words and telling them what to do like any other adult would, you need to be explaining things to them without telling them what to do so that they understand that it’s their own personal decision.

Step Three

Life is full of distractions. Teenagers can easily get distracted and go off course. But you have to understand that that is normal thing and still something that parents and teachers will suffer with. So when you’re ready for them don’t just write words about what they’re expected to remember and work off of, you need to find other ways to reiterate thoughts and concepts. Use visual aids, find other ways to explain the exact same information, or even, in a greeter world, you’ll have an app that will work on your mobile device that accompanies what you’re writing. This will not only remind them of the information and keep relative to them. But it will also make an accessible on a more technologically relevant plane of existence.

I’ve been a motivational speaker for so many years. Probably going on 20 at this point, but I’m not really keeping track. I first got into it after I had completed drug rehab dilatation program and went on to get my PhD in social sciences including an emphasis in childhood development.
